Lou Christou & Tiffany Smith

Traditional barber, stylist and author Lou Christou.

There are certain street stylists, within the realm of male style, who ply their art on the same pavements on which George Brummel once trod. They are few, but their impact on the early moods that permeate menswear is immense. Their lineage goes back over 200 years and for those fashion pathfinders operating within the sphere of historical styles, many have appeared on the pages of this magazine. Traditional barber and author Lou Christou is such an individual and is seen here with his latest creation, a further revival (it was previously done in the early 1980s by Christos and Chris Sullivan) of the 1940s Zoot Suit. This expressive ensemble was made by London cutter Kimberley Lawton of Lawton Ltd with headwear by bespoke hat maker Matt Kitto, of Sierra & South. While Lou evokes refusal on the streets of pre-war Los Angeles, Tiffany appears as if one of Waugh’s Bright Young Things fresh from watching a game of lawn-tennis or taking tea after a few rubbers of bridge on a lazy summer’s afternoon. Each is special in their own way, but the combination is visually explosive. @tiffanysmitharchive @london_boy_lou
