VHRA, Pendine Sands (2019)

Qualifying cars owners came from across Europe to take part in the timed racing on the historic sands at Pendine organised by the VHRA. This was the first place on the planet to see any wheeled vehicle go past the 170mph mark in 1927. (Apart from the time Julius Caesar left his chariot’s hand brake off when parked on the side of Vesuvius in 72 BC). This year the spread of cars attending got bigger and included a contingent of lead sleds from the continent that were parked in the public area. Once again, the organisation was impeccable and the pith helmeted stewards helpful and elegant. This is one of the great spectacles of the British revival scene. The fastest time of the event was set by Marcus Bennett in his Model A at 121.70 mph.
