Inspired by ’72: The Porsche Targa 4

For those interested in style the early 1970s has much to offer. This was an experimental and flamboyant period that spawned movies like Klute (1971) and Shaft (1971), musicians like Sly and the Family Stone and Gil Scott Heron and it ushered in the era of the supercar. Allow us to introduce you to the latest in a line of such machines that started in 1972 as the Porsche 911 Targa and manifests itself today as the Porsche Targa 4. With styling clearly inspired by the early cars, the Stuttgart maker has introduced an iteration of the original 911 fastback that has all the right parts in all the right places. Specifically, the brushed alloy roll bar appears to be reminiscent of the second generation ’72 / ’73, 2.3 911 Targa and that, in turn, inspired Men’s File to put 1970s recreator Casey Drabble and the new vehicle together. A recent graduate in French (with a ‘first’), a street stylist and a devotee to the aesthetics of the decade in question, she represents the human flair and intelligence that also happens to be inherent in Porsche’s design.

For this photo-story Men’s File has chosen California, the spiritual home of the 911 Targa family, as a suitable location in which to depict Casey’s interaction with this remarkable machine, resulting in a visual treat that exemplifies elegance, function and great style. Powered by a 3.8 lire, six cylinder this model is capable of taking you through the canyons at high velocity (actually over 180mph). A stylish girl and an amazing car.
