A FIAT Love Affair

Alex wears a blazer from Dege & Skinner, tailored by his own hand, breeches by Black Sign (Japan) and flying boots by Lewis Leathers.

The innocence and elegance of pre-war Italy is encapsulated in this series of attractive vignettes featuring Alex Hills, Lucy Manley and an untouched 1935 Fiat 1500. Produced with air-flow in mind, the streamlined body, ‘moderne’ interior and the vehicle’s subtle green patina gives the impression that previous owners have been (literally) wiping the surface with an oily rag for decades. This has created that most desirable effect of flawed perfection that might be characterised as the wabi-sabi of the motoring world. As admirable as the car is, it’s the presence of this stylish couple that gives life and relevance to the machine. As ever, the revivalists choose their dress with the utmost care and mix their own hand crafted tailoring with period clothing and even one or two new items from Lewis Leathers and Black Sign (Japan). If one is a lover of all things Italian, it doesn’t get much better than this. This was another partnership shoot with the world’s most impressive old car publication, The Automobile, and a full description of the car can be seen in the December 2021 issue.
