 Men’s File goes back a long way with Jake (pictured here). Back to the early 1990s and a certain Triumph X-75 (Hurricane) that our editor was having trouble getting to fire on all three cylinders. In those days, if you lived south of the river (Thames) and you couldn’t fix your own British bike you went to Ned at Newton & Smyl and that’s when Jake’s skill as a mechanic and influence as a participant in the British bike revival scene came to our notice. Ned was the boss and Jake was working on customer’s projects and offering annoying new-comers solid advice and genuine guidance. Three decades has meant us all exploring numerous areas of motorcycle orientated style. Nevertheless, like many, this stylist always returns to the source.
